Michelle Keegan sets record straight on Brassic ‘axe’ rumours as she issues statement on series ending

Michelle Keegan has insisted that the hit Sky comedy Brassic “has not been axed”, clarifying that the show is coming to a natural end after seven successful series.

The actress took to Instagram to address reports about the show’s conclusion, stating: “And just for the record… Brassic has not been ‘AXED’ or ‘cancelled’…

“It’s come to a natural end after six fantastic seasons and we’re currently in the middle of making the 7th and final season.”

Keegan, who plays Erin Croft in the series, signed off her message by “sending love to all the Brassic fans out there.”

The clarification comes as the show’s creators confirmed the seventh series, currently in production, will be its last.

Series co-creator and writer Danny Brocklehurst explained the decision to conclude the show, saying: “When Joe Gilgun and I sat down to create Brassic, we couldn’t have imagined, in our wildest dreams, that we would do seven series and gather such a loyal and loving fan base.”

“It’s been a complete joy to create this eccentric world, but all good things must come to an end, and we want to stop while we are still riding high. Maybe they can finally give us that BAFTA,” he added.

David Livingstone, founder of production company Calamity Films, praised the show’s impact: “Somehow, some crazy stories and a bucketful of truth, combined with an astoundingly talented cast, have created the most loyal fanbase you could ever hope for.”

“From Joe Gilgun’s unconventional imagination to Danny Brocklehurst’s brilliant writing, it’s all been a blast. This farewell series is for the fans,” Livingstone said.

Since its debut in 2019, Brassic has established itself as Sky’s most successful comedy series to date.

A Sky spokesperson highlighted the show’s remarkable impact: “Fans very quickly became attached to this dynamic group of friends, as they found unconventional ways to win at life in northern suburbia.”

The series has garnered critical acclaim, winning best comedy drama at the 2023 Royal Television Society Awards.

It has also received four TV BAFTA nominations for Joe Gilgun’s male performance in a comedy.

The show’s first four series were released on Netflix in August 2024, introducing the comedy to an even wider audience.

The final series will air later in 2025, with Sky promising it will go out in “unforgettable Brassic style.”

Keegan is currently filming the final series while expecting her first child with husband Mark Wright, having announced her pregnancy in December.
