Sir Rod Stewart, 80, ‘thrilled’ as he announces major new career move amid ‘retirement’ speculation

Sir Rod Stewart, 80, stunned fans with a fresh career announcement days after celebrating his milestone birthday with Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.

Late last year, the rock legend announced his current world tour would be his last.

On November 20, Stewart declared that “this will be the end of large-scale world tours for me. But I have no desire to retire.”

“I love what I do, and I do what I love. I’m fit, have a full head of hair, and can run 100 meters in 18 seconds at the jolly old age of 79,” he continued.

In the statement, Maggie May hitmaker mulled over the possibility of seeking out “smaller venues and more intimacy” for future performances.

“But then again, I may not,” he wrote cryptically, signing off as the “ambiguous Sir Rod Stewart”.

The announcement followed several signs that Stewart was in the process of slowing down.

In August, the rock icon was forced to cancel his 200th show celebration due to coming down with strep throat.

“I’m desperately sorry to miss this,” Stewart explained.

He added: “I’m absolutely gutted. I’ve been looking forward to this concert for so long. My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused.”

In the same month, Stewart spoke candidly spoke about his own mortality in an admission that “my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear.my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear.

“We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.

“I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy,” the then 79-year-old reflected to The Sun.

Despite the statements and mishaps last year, Stewart has committed further to his 2025 tour and is set to headline the Glastonbury Legends stages in the summer.

Now, he has delighted fans with the announcement of further dates for his newly dubbed One Last Time tour.

Updating fans on Instagram, he wrote: “I’m thrilled to announce I’ll be adding two more shows to my One Last Time Tour this December!
