Sir Rod Stewart, 79, takes dig at ‘bulls*** of modern society’ as he shares sad news about ‘dear pal’: ‘Will miss immensely!’

Sir Rod Stewart hasn’t minced his words about the state of affairs in modern society in his latest social media update.

The 79-year-old took to Instagram on Wednesday to express his dismay at the news that his “dear pal” and columnist Tam Cowan had been let go from his publication.

In a social media post, Stewart revealed his “favourite newspaper” had “laid off” Cowan for unknown reasons.

The singer penned in view of his 1.5 million followers: “My favourite newspaper, The Daily Record, has laid off my dear pal Tam Cowan.

“Whatever the reason, I shall miss his column immensely,” Stewart added before slipping a dig in toward today’s politically correct era.

He remarked: “Tam’s writing was always witty and light-hearted but cut through the BS of modern society.

“Farewell Tam I will miss you mate, but I must keep on reading the Record… Sir Rod Stewart,” Stewart signed off.

Cowan soon replied to Stewart with a post of his own, thanking the Maggie May hitmaker for his support in light of the career news.

The journalist wrote: “Sincere thanks to my auld pal @sirrodstewart for the kind words on his social media this morning.

“And apologies once again, mate, for the bum note I hit when [SWIPE] you shoved the mic under my nose @caesarspalace back in August…” he added, referring to the slideshow of pictures he’d posted of the two on Instagram.

And Cowan wasn’t the only one rushing to react to Stewart’s update as fans soon flooded the post with their well wishes to Cowan and Stewart

“Love these updates- must look up Tam,” one fan replied before a second said: “I love you are coming out with your opinion and thoughts about stuff.”

A third weighed in: “Hopefully Tam can move onto something more exciting for everyone to enjoy.”

“Wishing even better things ahead for Tam Cowan,” commented a fourth while a fifth remarked: “The media doesn’t appreciate people who cut through the Bulls*** of modern society!” (sic)

Stewart’s latest foray into the spotlight on social media comes just days after he hit headlines for his remarks about Gregg Wallace.

The MasterChef star has stepped back from presenting duties following a BBC News investigation that revealed allegations of inappropriate sexual comments and inappropriate behaviour against him.

The BBC reportedly received 13 formal complaints, including from Newsnight star Kirsty Wark.

Wallace’s lawyers have strongly denied Wallace engaged in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature while the presenter took to social media to brand the complaints as being from “middle-class women of a certain age” – he went on to apologise for the remarks.

Once news of Wallace’s stepping down came to light, Stewart used his platform to blast the presenter over his alleged treatment of Penny Lancaster, Stewart’s wife, during her series of Celebrity MasterChef.

“So Greg Wallace gets fired from MasterChef. Good riddance Wallace… You humiliated my wife when she was on the show but you had that bit cut off didn’t you?” Stewart’s rant began.

He signed off: “You’re a tubby, bald-headed, ill-mannered bully. Karma got ya. Sir Rod Stewart.”
