Great British Bake Off fury as fans outraged after star ‘robbed’ of win in Channel 4 series finale: ‘Stolen!’
Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off has concluded for another year as the latest winner was announced on Tuesday.
Invested fans were anxious to find out who would be crowned winner after 10 weeks of following the amateur bakers on their journey, but not everyone was pleased with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith’s decision.
The three bakers in the final this year included Georgie Grasso, Christiaan de Vries and Dylan Bachelet, with Grasso chosen as the winner of the series.
The nail-biting finale saw the trio tasked with their final selection of challenges, and they would need to pull out all the stops to impress the judges one more time.
For their first task, the finalists were asked to bake scones before later creating an afternoon tea selection.
Their final challenge saw them utilising their creative and technical skills with an elaborate hanging celebration cake.
Hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding were on hand to turn up the pressure as the competition neared its end, and the three bakers struggled to remain calm.
Bachelet, 20, seemed to buckle under the pressure as he messed up the consistency of his sponge in the final task.
Many fans began to think de Vries, 34, was the worthy winner as he kept his cool and had consistently impressed throughout the series, prompting many to express their disappointment on social media when Grasso, 34, was crowned winner.
Taking to X, one made no secret of their disagreement as they penned: “Ugh, at the chosen winner. I mean, well done, Georgie. #GBBO.”
“She could be the worst winner in the competition’s history. Shouldn’t have even been in the Final let alone winning it #GBBO,” another fumed.
A third simply remarked: “Stolen from Dylan.”
“As much as I like Georgie, Christian was robbed #gbbo,” another agreed.
Another X user wrote: “I am so gutted for Dylan. He really deserved the win for being consistently brilliant the whole series #GBBO.”
“Dylan has had a shocker in the final, gutted for him. #GBBO,” a sixth shared.
Others were pleased by the nurse’s victory though, noting her breathtaking showstopper.
