BBC The Apprentice axed candidate blasts ‘edited out’ scenes as they take aim at ‘unfair’ firing

Lord Alan Sugar has almost whittled down The Apprentice candidates to the final five, with episode eight of the series airing on Thursday.

Last week, a double firing stunned BBC viewers and contestants, with Keir Shave and Frederick Afrifa eliminated in a brutal and seemingly unclear decision by the business magnate.

Typically, Sugar, 77, invites the project manager from the losing team to select two other candidates to return to the boardroom before he decides who of the trio will be fired.

However, last week, Sugar decided to fire Afrifa on the spot before turning to Shave and firing him, too. Speaking exclusively to GB News, the 27-year-old addressed criticism that the decision was “unfair”.

“I’d probably say I felt it was a little bit more unfair towards Fred because he didn’t really even get his chance to fight in the bottom three,” he stated.

“Then not being selected as one of the bottom three, and yet somehow going… Also felt a little bit unfair. But I guess… I’m sure he had his reasons.”

When asked if there was anything edited out of the show he felt should have been kept in, Shave replied: “Yeah, I think the key thing with this one is it would have been good to actually see the interaction with the investors.

“We were told that they didn’t invest, we were told that they said that I was ‘the worst,’ but no one sees that.

“Like… We don’t even see them say that. So it would be better for us to have seen one of those pitches where you do then get to interact with them afterward and actually close the deal.

“Because then, well, it’s on camera, it happened, whereas it’s not on camera.”

Last week’s task saw the contestants challenged with launching a new banking app and accompanying money box for young children.

They had to pitch the idea to industry heavyweights to secure the most investment wins.

Shave’s team opted for a dog-themed money box, and candidate Mia Collins devised the idea of Strong Savers, using the letters SS on the dog tag.

The team quickly realised their mistake and changed the logo to a pound sign.

Many fans spotted the blunder before the team, with some taking to social media to express their shock over the problematic design.

However, fans were also surprised by Sugar’s decision to fire the two on the spot rather than give them the chance to battle it out in the boardroom.

Taking to X, one asked: “Why did he fire Frederick ?? That was soo random #TheApprentice.”

“Damn. Lord Sugar fired brother Frederick instead of letting him pick who he wants to bring back into the boardroom #TheApprentice,” another shared.

Someone else commented: “Frederick did not deserve to go,” with another adding: “Poor Keir #TheApprentice.”

“Thought that was very harsh to fire Frederick before hearing the rest of the candidates he brought back in? He got fired because of his team bickering in the boardroom? If that’s the case then every losing PM should get fired immediately. Extremely harsh firing #TheApprentice,” another added.

“@Lord_Sugar Keir shouldn’t have gone #TheApprentice,” someone else argued. (sic)
