Alan Carr breaks down on BBC Michael McIntyre’s Big Show during emotional reunion: ‘I want to apologise’

Alan Carr, 48, was moved to tears during an emotional appearance on Saturday night’s episode of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.

The BBC programme, which aired on Saturday, introduced Carr to a series of people from his past in the new Remember Me? Segment.

The new segment featured celebrities in the Royal Box being surprised by people from their past, with guests tasked with identifying these familiar faces and recalling their connections.

During the segment, the 48-year-old encountered several guests including a florist who had delivered flowers to him that same morning and a former colleague from his time working at a call centre.

However, it was the appearance of Carr’s former drama teacher, Mr Bowden, that had the comedian in floods of tears.

“Do you remember me?” Bowden asked while looking sweetly at a shocked Carr.

Speechless for a few moments, Carr eventually exclaimed: “I… I… I do remember him. He’s my wonderful drama teacher Mr Bowden!”

Clearly emotional, Carr described Bowden as “the most amazing teacher ever”.

“When you’re at school, and you’re not having the best time, I used to love the drama lessons and stuff and just being someone else for the afternoon. It was proper magical. You were just the best,” he continued.

Host Michael McIntyre turned to Bowden and asked what he made of his former student.

He’s absolutely wonderful. He was a marvellous, marvellous student. You should have seen the work he put in,” Bowden responded touchingly.

He continued: “Alan, you’ve said some lovely things about me. May I say thank you for teaching me? Because that’s what you did.”

The moment was evidently too much for Carr as he broke down in tears forcing him to take off his characteristic glasses.

“That’s it. I’m coming down,” the comedian declared as he left the Royal Box and made his way to the stage.

Carr and Bowden embraced as a touched McIntyre looked on before the beloved drama teacher asked if he had time for “one more thing”.

Bowden turned to his former student and said: “Right Alan, in front of all these people I want to apologise to you”
