Tommy Fury shares real reason for Molly-Mae Hague split as he breaks silence on secret alcohol addiction battle
Tommy Fury has broken his silence and finally shared the real reason he and Molly-Mae Hague split after five years.
Last year, the beloved Love Island couple shocked the nation when they announced they had split up one year after their romantic engagement.
Since then, their relationship has been clouded with rumours that Fury cheated on his fiancé and mother to his child – Bambi.
Neither party has addressed the real reason as to why they split up and have maintained a good co-parenting relationship for the sake of their daughter.
This Friday, Hague’s documentary – Molly-Mae: Behind It All – is set to drop in Amazon Prime where their break-up is captured and shared for their fans to see.
Alongside this, the couple were recently spotted at Luke Shaw’s New Year’s Eve party having a midnight kiss to ring in the new year.
Wanting to set the record straight and do the best he can to mend his relationship with Hague, Fury sat down with Men’s Health and revealed the real reason for their split.
Fury underwent surgery back in early 2024 after he snapped all the ligaments in his hand and had to have reconstructive surgery.
He admitted that due to not being able to train and his diet going out of the window, he turned to drinking during the day and into the night.
The star admitted he thought drinking would make him feel better, and without the alcohol, he would spiral out of control and think his boxing career was over.
“I just wanted to feel somewhat happy. I’d go out and just drink and drink and drink. It went on that way for a long time. I said no to a lot of work because I wasn’t in the right headspace and started drinking more heavily, that’s what really got a grip on me.”
He admitted to “smashing Guinness left, right and centre” before the evening would draw round and “the shots would come out”.
Speaking on his break-up, the 25-year-old explained: “There’s been so much s**t in the papers every single day for the past six months, but if it’s not come from my mouth or Molly’s mouth, it’s complete and utter bulls**t.
“All I’ve been seeing for the past six months is ‘Cheater!’, ‘He slept with me!’, ‘He slept with this girl, he slept with that girl!’ Complete and utter b******s.
“We broke up because I had a problem with alcohol and I couldn’t be the partner that I wanted to be anymore. It kills me to say it, but I couldn’t. I loved a pint of beer, loved to drink.”
Fury went on to discuss the hate he received after his Good Morning Britain interview and felt that no one understood he was going through a rough patch too.

He continued: “Cheating was never a thing. You can ask Molly this yourself. It was the drink, and the drink is not a good thing. You need to get a grip of it.
“If you’re in the same spot as me, where you just think that it’s going to cure all your problems, it doesn’t. You wake up even worse and you want to drink more to try and feel happy again. That’s the cycle of it.”
Fury revealed that he has gotten himself out of the vicious cycle of drinking, and was now focusing on his health once again and working towards getting his family back together.
He concluded: “I’m not looking for sympathy. Whether I do the right thing or do the wrong thing, people are still going to hate me. As long as my family loves me. I just want to do my fights, earn my money, and look after my daughter.”
