Claudia Winkleman details hidden health woes amid return to BBC The Traitors: ‘Falling apart’
Claudia Winkleman has detailed how a health issue has left her feeling as though she is “falling apart”.
The Traitors presenter Winkleman, 52, is currently fronting series three of the tense psychological competition, but recently opened up on her health woes.
The Strictly Come Dancing presenter explained she has spent her life not “standing up straight” and is now being helped by medical professionals in an attempt to correct her posture.
Expanding on her condition, the TV favourite continued: “I’ve got a bad back and I need some form of strength. You know what I mean? I’ve got my core.”
“They talked to me about parts of my body. They said, ‘The problem is you’ve never used your lats,'” she added.
Winkleman admitted the statement left her confused as she went on: “I was like, ‘What is that?’
“Apparently, so my shoulders are up by my neck. And I don’t like the look of people standing up straight.
“It feels somehow cocky, so my stance has always been like a turtle.”
Lats is another term for the latissimus dorsi muscle, which is one of the largest back muscles.
Winkleman explained she has implemented lifestyle changes in an effort to combat the issue.
“Never standing up straight in 52 years of life, I’ve now got so many back problems.
“So I go to Pilates and they try and open me up,” she detailed during an interview on Gabby Logan’s The Mid. Point podcast in December.
“When they do open me up and I sit or stand like I’m supposed to,” she continued, confessing: “I mean, it feels alien.”
On her own experience of Pilates, Logan added: “I come away from Pilates and you do feel like you’re so open, almost slightly spiritual.”
“Everything feels open, your head, your mouth, your jaw,” the radio presenter and former gymnast went on.
“Would you ever do a physical challenge?” Logan asked the mother-of-three, who took no time to consider her answer before replying: “No.”
“Thank you so much,” she joked before admitting: “I don’t like physical exertion of any kind, but I’ll do Pilates because it seems quite still and I’d quite like to be strong.”
“You should be lifting some weights,” Logan advised Winkleman, adding: “Pilates are good, but weights are important in our period of life.”

“My body is made entirely of crepe, [I’m] falling apart,” Winkleman quipped, making her stance on the matter very clear.
The presenter had a brief hiatus off screens following the latest Strictly finale in December, but as of January 1 she’s been back with the latest series of The Traitors.
The first episode saw a “brutal” twist introduced, which prompted some fans of the show to complain on social media.
