Tess Daly leaves BBC Strictly fans cringing over Chris McCausland sight remark as fans hit out at comment
Strictly Come Dancing’s final show of the series hit screens on Saturday, with fans tuning in to see who would be lifting the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
The 2024 episodes made up the show’s milestone 20th-year series, and it’s been a celebratory one from the start.
This year’s bookies’ favourite is comedian Chris McCausland, who made history from day one by being the show’s first blind contestant.
He has truly proved his skill throughout the series, with high scores for routines and consistently impressing both judges and fans watching.
Hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman were as glamorous as ever for the occasion as they welcomed viewers to the grand finale.
However, a slip-up from Daly, 55, left fans mortified as they took to social media to point out the awkward blunder.
After McCausland and dance partner Dianne Buswell performed for the second time their Couple’s Choice from Week Eight, which was danced to John Lennon’s Instant Karma (We All Shine On), the presenter experienced an unfortunate gaffe.
The dance touched fans at the time as it featured several seconds of darkness, representing McCausland’s disability.
Following the judges’ rave reviews on Saturday, Daly made the awkward mistake.
“Thank you, judges. It is a joy. You have come such a long way, Chris, and we can’t see… can’t wait to see what else you’ve got in store for us tonight, thank you very much – Chris and Dianne!” she declared.
While she handled the blunder seamlessly, it didn’t stop fans from noticing the slip-up in Daly’s wording.
Taking to X, one re-posted the clip and wrote: “Oh Tess, you had one job!!!! #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly.”
“Why did tess say that lmaooo #strictly,” another asked.
“Tess accidentally saying we can’t see instead of we can’t wait to see #Strictly,” a third shared.
“Not Tess saying ‘We can’t see…we can’t WAIT to see your show dance’ #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly #strictlyfinal,” someone else echoed.
A different user penned: “Tess saying ‘we can’t wait to see’ to a blind man feels like a poor bit of script writing #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing #StrictlyFinal.”

Thankfully, the evening moved swiftly on and it was soon time for Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola to perform their first dance of the show, another repeat picked by the judges.
While they suffered a wardrobe malfunction, they were also met with positive comments from the judging panel.
