James May shares exciting plan for reunion with Grand Tour co-stars just months after Amazon series ended: ‘Quiet interesting’
Former Top Gear presenter James May has opened up about his hopes of reuniting with colleagues Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson – however, there will be one major difference.
The three friends left fans gutted and emotional when they issued an emotional goodbye to The Grant Tour in September.
Despite the sad news, May remains hopeful that whilst it was a sad end of an era it may not be the end of the trio for good.
He admitted: “I’ve spoken to them a few times and I suspect we’ll go out for a beer somewhere.”
He added that unlike their previous meetings which were based around work commitments, their next reunion could be more relaxed.
“Just because we can, not because we have to come up with some gags, plan a road trip or choose some cars, but for the hell of it. It’d be quite interesting,” he told Times Radio.
The star also previously admitted that he didn’t feel the same devastation when the series ended as many fans.
Speaking at Market Place Vauxhall – where his limited-edition James Gin was on display – he said: “Nothing will ever be as big as Top Gear and The Grand Tour were, so I’m not full of woe and regret.
“It was time to stop. We are all getting quite old. One or two of us are on the brink of death, and I hope we left on a high note with people wanting more because that’s what you’re supposed to do in show business.
“So, I’m not depressed about it. It’s a time for reflection, a reflection usually leads to another gin.”
Away from their TV careers, May admitted that he was surprised that Clarkson decided to take on opening a farm.
He joked: “He’s deeply afraid of anything physical or manual. It’s given him a new purpose, which he possibly needed.”
Whilst the star is proud of his colleague for the success he has seen from his farm – including his own solo Amazon series, Clarkson’s Farm – the same can’t be said for himself.
May has been presenting the travel series, Our Man In…, on Amazon Prime since 2020.
However, the show was cancelled this year, and May didn’t hold back in slamming the streaming service for the decision.
Speaking to Yahoo.com, he slammed: “Well Our Man In… is actually finished, they don’t want any more of that, so I won’t be doing that…they just didn’t want it anymore, miserable b*****ds.
