Angel Adoree hits out ‘are you taking the p***?’ as Dick Strawbridge shares major change to chateau appearance

Dick Strawbridge found himself on the other end of some rather bemused words from wife Angel Adoree after the pair became confused over a drastic change to the family’s chateau.

The husband and wife duo have been renovating their chateau ever since they upped sticks from the UK back in 2015 and speaking in Friday’s episode of their podcast, the former Channel 4 stars discussed changes to their “cuisinette”.

However, Angel Adoree quickly became perplexed when Strawbridge expressed confusion about one change to the building materials his wife had used on their outdoor kitchen.

“We’re now doing our cuisinette, the summer kitchen we did in the folly,” Strawbridge began. “We put in other elements out there.

“When we did that, we were actually making sure that the area inside the walled garden had the shade through them (like) the leftover Welsh slates that we used on the orangerie.

“We had another pagoda area with a sort of see-through roof on it for sitting out. That whole area, which looks back towards the chateau from the northern corner of the walled garden, we wanted it to be beautiful.”

“We did,” Adoree chipped in before explaining they used an old contact in the UK to supply the stones.

“What’s lovely is when you’ve got a relationship and you know somebody is gonna be really helpful, it was just straight on the to John chatting through different options,” she said.

Strawbridge then admitted he was “really surprised” to discover he could purchase slates and stone that would be able to “tie in with the front of the chateau” and its centuries-old appearance.

He went on to praise Adoree’s work on the cuisinette: “It’s got the size, it’s got the shapes, and it does look chateau-esque.”

Delving into the look of the stones, Adoree chimed in: “Well, the chateau has always been like a mixture of like a little bit of sandstone and a little bit of granite. It’s kind of like that mixture. And that’s why the stone that we had was a mixture of the two. It was absolutely perfect.

“But if you take that and put it all over the walled garden, in terms of if you took the exact stone and put it on the path or around that area, it just doesn’t go.”

“Oh, I didn’t realise,” a confused Strawbridge replied. “I thought it did. It’s not the same? The stone in the walled garden isn’t the same stuff in the front of the chateau?”

“Are you taking the p***?” an unimpressed Adoree quizzed as her husband explained: “No, I’m serious. I thought we bought more of the same. There we go.

“My comment was going to be completely different because I was surprised you put all the extra patterny bits in it because there’s some quite nice terracotta…” Strawbridge teased but by that point, Adoree interjected: “Are you serious? Are you completely serious?!”

Strawbridge explained: “Darling, obviously I’m not (joking). What are you talking about? It’s not the same stone?”

“No! I mean, it’s a million miles away,” Adoree hit back but Strawbridge stood firm: “It’s not a million miles away. I’ve seen the aerial photographs. It looks exactly the same.”

“We got the same stone but in a totally different colour!” a dumbfounded Adoree bellowed.

With Strawbridge perplexed by the revelation, Adoree rounded off the discussion by revealing the reason for the slight change to the stone was to add “warmth” to the area.
