Rebekah Vardy slaps down rumours she’s ‘fleeing’ UK amid Coleen Rooney’s ITV I’m A Celeb stint: ‘Clowns!’
Rebekah Vardy has clapped back at rumours of her “fleeing” the country and making her way to Australia for a surprise return to the jungle – as her enemy, Coleen Rooney begins her stint Down Under.
Rooney flew out to Australia this week and joined the likes of Oti Mabuse, Jane Moore, Alan Halsall, Melvin Odoom and GK Barry among others for the new series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
The rumours of Vardy’s return first came around due to her ongoing conflict with Rooney and their very public fallout.
In 2019, Rooney accused Vardy of leaking stories about her personal life, sparking a High Court libel trial which resulted in the latter losing in October 2022. Vardy was ordered to pay the bulk of Rooney’s legal costs.
Vardy and her footballer husband Jamie Vardy were recently seen jetting out of the UK for a lavish holiday and were spotted at Heathrow Airport.
The 42-year-old – who starred in the 2017 series – was pictured looking in good spirits as she pushed luggage alongside the Leicester City star, who’s currently on a short international break.
Despite the rumours that she is returning to the Outback, Vardy has since put the record straight and shut down any comments regarding her “fleeing” the country.
Posting a snippet of a news article on her Instagram story, she penned underneath: “Oh give it a rest you clowns! Nothing to do with it being an international break! Any BS to suit your narrative.”
She posted another a few hours later lounging on the aeroplane and sarcastically captioned the post: “Fleeing the country,” alongside a laughing and a waving hand emoji.
This isn’t the first time Vardy has hit back at claims she was returning to the jungle, as she previously wrote: “I take rumours as a compliment.
“The fact that you’re bringing my name onto a table I don’t sit at shows your obsession. Stay bothered.” (sic)
A source later claimed that Vardy is dreading having the “Wagatha Christie” saga brought back to public scrutiny because of Rooney’s stint in the jungle.
An insider claimed to MailOnline: “Jamie is whisking Becky away for a week to Dubai during the I’m A Celeb launch.
“The last thing she wants is to turn on her TV to see Coleen and the prospect of Ant & Dec making light of their painful court case fills her with dread.”
Rooney confirmed her stint on the ITV show through a pre-recorded video on Instagram displaying two whiteboards filled with plans she has organised in advance for her children.
She said: “I can confirm I am going in the jungle… do you know what they have asked me for so many years now and I have always said no or put it off because the kids have been young and I’ve had a lot on…

“But this year I thought, do you know what? I quite fancy doing it.
“I would like to experience something different, do something for myself, meet new people, I am looking forward to doing the trials.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m really anxious about leaving the kids, which is the biggest thing. For weeks and months that has been on my mind but I have come to terms with it.
“I have planned and prepped, I have an army of people, family and friends, school friends, all helping out with the kids and they’re probably going to have a great time while I’m away.”
