Liam Payne given ultimatum by girlfriend Kate Cassidy over stars ‘drug use’ days before tragic death

Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy gave the former One Direction star a heartbreaking ultimatum to choose between her or drugs just days before his tragic death in Argentina last month.

The 31-year-old singer died on October 16 after falling from the balcony of his third-floor hotel room at the CasaSur Palermo in Buenos Aires.

The couple had been holidaying in Argentina as Payne needed to renew his American visa, where he had planned to live with the former waitress.

His visa had expired due to his history of drug use and rehab stints, requiring medical examinations and drug tests for renewal.

What was initially planned as a five-day stay in Argentina was extended to two weeks, against Cassidy’s wishes.

She expressed her frustration on social media, telling followers she “hated” being stuck in one place for too long and felt an urgent need to return to their Florida home.

Sources close to Cassidy revealed she felt trapped in what they described as a “hostage situation” as the holiday continued to drag on.

During this extended period, Payne underwent the required medical examinations and drug tests, which he initially passed, putting him on track to receive his visa again.

However, reports suggest The Strip That Down singer relapsed into drug use and alcohol shortly after completing the necessary tests.

A source told the New York Post: “His drug use was causing a lot of drama. So she gave him an ultimatum: her or the drugs.

“He chose the drugs, so she had no choice but to remove herself from the situation. She thought she was doing tough love.”

The situation had become increasingly strained between the couple during their extended stay.

“It was becoming very unhealthy for everyone,” the source added, describing the deteriorating circumstances that led to Cassidy‘s departure.

She had hoped her boyfriend would follow her back to Miami after her departure, according to sources close to the couple.

Following his death, Cassidy penned an emotional tribute on Instagram, writing: “Thank you for all of the kind words and love that has been sent my way.

“I have been at a complete loss.”
