22 Kids and Counting star defended by fans after facing ‘mum-shaming’ over newborn decision: ‘Be careful!’

22 Kids and Counting’s Radford family welcomed a new addition to the clan just last month, with Katie, 21, having recently given birth to a baby boy, Ronnie.

The stars of the Channel 5 series continue to share frequent updates with fans on social media while the series is off-air, with parents Sue and Noel Radford enjoying a strong online following.

However, a recent post shared on the family’s official Facebook page led to some criticisms, with fans jumping in to defend what could be deemed “mum-shaming” as new mother Katie was advised against using something for her baby son.

It came when matriarch Sue shared a sweet clip of Katie unboxing some newborn baby items, revealing each item as she did.

“Katie’s brought Baby Ronnie round and we’re building the pram together!” the caption on social media read. (sic)

Among the haul was a pram with a black parasol, and while Sue and Katie were delighted with the item, one person was quick to advise against it.

“Be careful with a black parasol – black absorbs the sun and could make it very hot underneath. That’s why most parasols are white,” one person warned.

However, many people jumped to Katie and Sue’s defence against what they deemed criticism with one responding: “She’s had 22 kids I’m sure she’s aware,” along with a laughing emoji.

“As long as the UV and UPF rating are good you should be fine no matter the colour…. I’m sure they did there research as they said they went to the shop together and discussed options with the staff there and actually most parasols are black or navy these days as to ensure the UV protection is strong enough as it is in lighter colours,” another penned.

Someone else pointed out: “By the time it gets to summer ronnie will be out of this pram and in a pushchair.”

“Ronnie will be drawing the pension by the time the sun comes,” a fourth quipped.

Another fan echoed: “Its hardly sunny here in England. Even in Summer we don’t get many hot days.”

“I had a black parasol for my daughter she was fine and it worked really well,” another shared. (sic)

The family have shared their excitement over the newborn, with Noel and Sue recently sharing a sweet post about their new grandson.

Sharing a series of snaps, the first one of Katie holding her newborn son, they captioned the post: “Welcome to the world Ronnie.

“He’s just so precious congratulations Katie and Connor he’s just amazing. very proud nana and grandpops.” (sic)
