Dick Strawbridge shares ‘worry’ over behaviour of daughter, 10, as he admits: ‘I always blamed Angel!’

Dick Strawbridge has candidly opened up about spotting familiar personality trends between his two daughters – despite their 28-year age difference.

The Escape to the Chateau star is currently touring the UK with his wife Angel Adoree, 46, and their two children Arthur, 11, and Dorothy, 10, but on the Scottish leg of their tour, they were able to reunite with his eldest daughter Charlotte, 38.

Strawbridge is the father to Charlotte and her older brother James, 40, through his first marriage to the author Brigit Strawbridge Howard.

The former Scrapheap Challenge star described the reunion with his eldest daughter as “lovely” after he, Adoree and the youngsters arrived in Scotland but before long, he became “worried” at Dorothy exhibiting similar behaviour to her older half-sister.

He explained all during this week’s bonus episode of the Strawbridges’ podcast Dick & Angel’s Chat…Eau.

Referring to the family’s reunion with Charlotte, Strawbridge explained: “She used to live in Edinburgh. She’s moved out now, she lives near Stirling as you know now, so she came to see us! She came to join us for the day.

“I got a big daddy hug from my girl and then we sort of had the day together. Three-fourths of my progeny was with us and do you know what? It was a lovely, lovely day.”

However, there was something that stuck in Strawbridge’s mind as he revealed: “I’m really worried that Dorothy and Charlotte have got so many common traits.”

Erring on the side of caution and not wanting to offend her stepdaughter, Adoree replied: “I don’t know whether I should say anything or stay silent.”

“I’ve got to tell you, they both like to be in charge,” Strawbridge explained, to which Adoree proudly agreed: “Yep.”

Realising he’d been aiming his angst about his youngest daughter’s behaviour towards his wife, he continued: “I always blamed you for Dorothy liking to be in charge!”

Relieved her husband had recognised that he and his eldest daughter may be to blame for Dorothy’s “bossy” personality, Adoree remarked: “I’m glad you’re saying some of this…

“Actually in the morning – I’ve been a little bit under the weather. I was poorly a long time ago. In fact, we all were weeks before we came on tour and I was trying to get rid of this cough.

“And the hotel we stayed in for the first time, I had a chance to go to the steam room. I thought it’d be really useful for me to do that. You had like an hour while you went off and I had a steam and then came and met you.

“And I’m really glad you had that time because I feel like you had an epiphany,” Adoree said with a laugh as Strawbridge reflected on his daughters’ behavioral tendencies.

Putting his worries to one side, he beamed: “It’s interesting to say! My girls, you know, I love the fact that they’re strong and they’re powerful and they’re good. It’s good to see them empowered.”

But Adoree was keen to remind her husband that she wasn’t the one at fault for sparking Strawbridge’s initial worries, telling him: “The thing is though I have actually said this to you before.

“When you blame me for Dorothy being bossy and always wanting to be in charge etc. I do say, ‘Well, I’ll think that you’re beautiful eldest daughter is very similar’.

“The two of them are very similar. Also, the fact that they are both obsessed with sushi!”

Adoree went on to draw more similarities between the two, including their love of music and artistic natures – something son Arthur doesn’t share with his siblings according to his parents.
