‘You’ll lose a finger’ Dick Strawbridge shares stern warning over signature moustache as he opens up on appearance
Escape to the Chateau star Dick Strawbridge has opened up about how he maintains his signature look, keeps the moustache in check and the stern warning he gives to barbers.
Strawbridge, his wife Angel Adoree and their children Arthur, 11, and Dorothy, 10, recently visited Bath during the middle block of their tour.
Despite their busy schedule, the couple still managed to find time to sit down and record a new episode of their podcast – Dick & Angel Chat…eau.
During the episode, the couple revealed what they did during their off time, which included going to The Ivy for dinner and getting a haircut.
Adoree explained as they were walking down the lanes in Bath, she suggested that her husband get a haircut to maintain his appearance throughout the tour.
Strawbridge joked that his wife suggests he gets a haircut “every seven days”, leaving Adoree to interject and correct: “Two weeks!”
The couple explained they found a Turkish barber, with Adoree liking a particular part of the grooming session: “They were really old school and traditional and he burnt off any excess hairs.”
Jumping in, Strawbridge noted: “Let’s come back to the burning in a second because we went back there because we knew it was a good cut.
“My biggest fear going into these barbers is first things first, they get warned, ‘Don’t touch my moustache or you lose a finger!’
“No moustache trimming done by a barber because it happened once, and one side of my moustache looked like Hitler and the other… Mexican on one side.
“That was 40 years ago and I have never let anyone touch my moustache since. The moustache doesn’t get touched.
“The next rule, I can’t have that haircut where they touch your beard and they give you lines, they put a little line around the top of it and around your neck.”
Adoree cut her husband off to note that just because he doesn’t understand why, doesn’t mean it doesn’t look good, with millions of people getting the cut he was describing.
The 65-year-old continued: “The thing is, I get my eyebrows done, the hairs in my ears, anywhere hair grows that it shouldn’t do but Angela gets excited with having it all burnt off.
“So Angela wanted to video me. He started burning my ears and he bashed my ear with the flames, but he was waiting for you to get the perfect shot and my ear started to get bloody hot!”
Laughing at her husband’s storytelling skills, she reiterated: “I am just putting this down, that is an exaggeration. It is, we are going to look at that video together.

“I would never, as you are being set alight, I would never say ‘Oh could you just go back I didn’t get it’. It might feel different to you getting your ears burnt.”
Joking about how long of a conversation they had had about his beard, Strawbridge quipped: “Anyway did we tell you I got a haircut in Bath?”
