Maura Higgins breaks silence on Pete Wicks ‘romance’ after BBC Strictly star ‘confirms’ rumours

Former Love Island star Maura Higgins has spoken for the first time about her connection with Pete Wicks after the pair were spotted sharing a passionate kiss recently.

Higgins and Wicks were first romantically linked back in August and have since kept a low profile when together in public.

The couple shared a tender moment at the Pride of Britain after-party recently, with Higgins planting a kiss on Wicks’ nose, and later being spotted kissing again at London’s Red Bar at the Grosvenor House Hotel.

A day earlier, Wicks showed off his impressive Strictly moves as he danced with Higgins in a TikTok video.

In new images, the pair were once again been spotted after a date at East London restaurant, Gloria, with Wicks planting a kiss on Higgins’ cheek before going in for a full snog.

Wicks was seen placing his hand on her lower back before embracing her in a romantic hug and walking down the street.

Today, Higgins opened up about their close “friendship” and claimed they “just get on very well”.

Speaking with dating expert Paul Brunson on the We Need To Talk podcast, she explained: “We just get on very, very well. I adore him, he’s an amazing person.

“Do you know what’s so weird? We met very soon after my coming off Love Island and we just instantly clicked.

“Our humour is the same. It’s like that sick, dark humour. It’s very abusive. We abuse each other. Very nasty, it’s hilarious. I adore him.”

Higgins split from American stuntman boyfriend Bobby Holland Hanton earlier this year.

The star’s romantic entanglements have been very public, as she has previously dated Strictly Come Dancing professional Giovanni Pernice, as well as her Love Island co-stars Christopher Taylor and Curtis Pritchard.

Speaking about her previous relationships, Higgins added: “I’ve not had a great track record in relationships. I just feel like apart from my best friend, every guy has just let me down.

“I expect to be let down and you can never be in a healthy relationship if I’m expecting that.”

Wicks and Pernice aren’t the only Strictly stars to which Higgins has been linked after she was spotted cosying up to Kai Widdrington during the Pride of Britain awards last week.

Widdrington looked very close to Higgins after the ceremony, leaving the dancer to tightly wrap his arms around her.

His link to the ITV star comes after his public break up from Strictly co-star Nadiya Bychkova earlier his year.

A Strictly source told the MailOnline that the latest romance twists will do little to dampen the show’s reputation for its stars hooking up.

The insider said: “Kai and Maura getting close while she’s still got feelings for Pete, who is now infatuated with Jowita, just sums up Strictly right now.

“It’s a never-ending conveyor belt of relationships and flings, which shows no sign of ending.”
