‘Crikey, that was close!’ Jeremy Clarkson reveals he was just ‘days away’ from fatal heart attack in shocking health admission
Jeremy Clarkson has admitted he recently faced a serious health scare that forced him to go to hospital for an emergency visit.
The 63-year-old broadcasting legend found himself feeling unwell, with symptoms including clamminess and tightness in his chest.
Initially dismissing these signs, Clarkson’s condition worsened, forcing him to seek medical attention.
“I woke on Wednesday morning not feeling too good. I was clammy and there was a tightness in my chest,” the Clarkson’s Farm star wrote in his Sunday column for The Times.
However, as he went about his normal routine on the farm the situation escalated quickly, resulting in his swift transportation to hospital via ambulance.
He said: “Naturally, I ignored these things and, after loading 30 pigs into the slaughterhouse school bus, I noticed that I had pins and needles in my left arm.”
Upon arrival at the hospital, Clarkson underwent a series of tests and scans to determine the cause of his symptoms.
“Luckily, there’s a lot of me, so there’s a lot of skin to which ECG electrodes can be fastened,” he quipped.

“There were so many that with someone like Rishi Sunak, I suspect they’d have to fit some of them to the roof of his mouth and up each nostril.
“They then took blood and X-rayed me and wheeled in a vast range of portable machines that go ping.
“And pretty soon they all decided that I wasn’t having a heart attack.”
Continuing to recount his tale, Clarkson said a senior physician decided to conduct further investigations using advanced imaging equipment.
“After coming out of that, I was off to the operating theatre,” he said, adding that the possibility of death “was most definitely just around the corner”.
Pressing the doctor for an answer on whether he had just days to live, the answer was not what he hoped for.
“Maybe,” the doctor told Clarkson.
The tests uncovered one of Clarkson’s arteries was completely blocked, while another was severely narrowed.
Clarkson underwent an emergency procedure to insert stents, saying: “It took two hours and at one point it felt like he’d put a Hoover pipe up my arm, along with a pile driver, and was busy inside my heart with a B&Q chisel and hammer gift set.
“It wasn’t especially painful. Just odd.”
However, much to fans’ relief, Clarkson said the procedure was successful, allowing him to avoid an emergency heart bypass and granting him a swift discharge the following day.
“Crikey, that was close,” Clarkson quipped.
Wrapping up his column, he said: “Now, thanks to all those tremendous people at the John Radcliffe in Oxford and all of their extraordinary machines, here I am wondering what water tastes like and if it’s possible to make celery interesting.”
