‘BBC always makes GB News the punchline!’ Bev Turner in blistering attack: ‘They think you’re stupid!’

GB News presenter Bev Turner has lambasted both the BBC and Ian Hislop after their attack on Britain’s News Channel during the latest episode of Have I Got News for You.

Former Conservative minister Dame Andrea Jenkyns faced an uncomfortable exchange with Hislop as she delivered her verdict on former Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Friday night’s show.

Jenkyns jibed that the broadcaster had “selected the audience” after she was immediately booed for telling the panel that she believes Johnson was “one of our better Prime Ministers”. Hislop then hit back at the former Tory MP, telling her “it’s just b*****ks.. This isn’t GB News”.

Reacting to the clash and Jenkyns’s recollection of her experience with the “biased” BBC on GB News, host Bev Turner expressed her outrage and claimed the broadcaster “thinks our viewers are stupid”.

Swiping at Hislop’s remark, Bev fumed: “Firstly, thank you for the publicity. It’s nice to get the name of GB News out there. I think for me what was so infuriating about that was this idea that GB News is always the punchline of the joke. When is that going to end?

“What the BBC and Ian Hislop are effectively saying is that all of you out there watching and listening right now, the hundreds of thousands of you who watch this channel every single day – we regularly beat Sky News, we regularly BBC news – they think that that you are stupid.

“That is what they’re saying. You don’t know your own minds, you can’t be trusted. You believe things that aren’t true because we don’t take our editorial standards seriously, and that is patently untrue. I can tell you that we sit here as journalists and we take our obligations to be factually accurate very, very seriously.”

Echoing Bev’s thoughts, Andrew also highlighted that Jenkyns’s view on the biased audience is valid, adding: “The BBC audience has never forgiven Boris for Brexit, and never forgiven him for lockdowns.

“Those audiences are chosen to be noisy. It’s the same with Question Time, they get the unanimous cheering and applause.”

Bev then interjected, arguing: “I think the point that Andrea Jenkyns was trying to make is that the BBC audience is inherently anti-Conservative, whether that makes them pro-Labour or pro-Lib Dem.

“I would say she was right about that. You don’t have to be a psychic to work that one out.”

Urging Ian Hislop to “move on” from his jibes about GB News, Bev continued: “You check your facts and just move on, Ian Hislop. Just move on, because it’s nice to know we live in your head and you think about us.”

Andrew continued: “I think a year ago, they wouldn’t have even mentioned it. We are breathing down their necks, we are overtaking them in many programmes. This programme is, for instance, regularly beating what’s on the BBC at this moment.”

Heaping praise on Dame Andrea Jenkyns for her handling of the situation on the BBC show, Bev declared that “all credit” should go to her for “putting herself in that limelight”.

Bev concluded: “The differences is, we have people in this studio from the left and the right of the political spectrum, and we treat them equally. We afford them equal respect, we give them time to have free speech.

“If you go on that show and you are right leaning, you are going to be the butt of their jokes. You’re going to get kicked around that studio. So all credit to Andrea Jenkyns for putting herself in that limelight.”

Andrew added: “She’s a great woman. I was so sorry she lost her seat – she was actually one of the good guys.”
