Shirley Ballas in fiery clash with fellow BBC Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood: ‘Yes it was!’

Strictly Come Dancing’s latest episode was a fan favourite as the celebrities and professional dancers stepped into the shoes of iconic characters for Movie Week.

The famous faces became unrecognisable as they took on new personas for the varied film adaptations, from Harry Potter to The Little Mermaid.

The first two episodes of the series has seen a few spats between judges Craig Revel Horwood and Shirley Ballas, and this week was no different.

The two vocal judges ended up in a slightly heated row following Wynne Evans and Katya Jones’ Cha Cha Cha, which they performed to Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag from 1993 classic Mrs Doubtfire.

Following the lively performance, Motsi Mabuse kicked off the commentary from the judges.

“Guys, this was really, really, honestly very good and I have to compliment you Katya – this was excellent choreography,” she beamed.

The judge continued: “Musically as well, and you gave it your best. We heard you , we saw you – you were screaming at us.

“The feet is what I fell in love with, the positioning of your feet, I would’ve loved to see a bit more Cha Cha Cha in your hips, but guys I’m trying to remember something as iconic and I just can’t, because this was brilliant.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas was next, and gave a lot of technical praise for the routine before adding: “That’s difficult to do, it’s really difficult.

“So I believe that you can master the hip action. The leg action, you’ve got a lovely foot position. Those other details are going to make your routine extremely interesting.”

“You were terrific, this is exactly the sort of… I love these numbers,” Anton Du Beke began.

He continued: “Movie week is magic for me, an exceptional dance, danced beautifully and I was just sitting here enjoying the show, brilliant.”

However, in typical Revel Horwood fashion, the judge took a different approach from the others as he began with the criticisms.

“I have to say, the hip action really let this whole number down – really wooden and stiff…” he admitted.

“Oh no,” Du Beke cut in, followed by Ballas who vocally disagreed: “No, not at all, not at all.”

“It was wooden and stiff,” Revel Horwood replied, doubling down on his complaint.

“I didn’t think it was!” Ballas argued, to which the longest-serving Strictly judge responded: “Well, it was.”

However, as always, Revel Horwood ended his critique on a high as he continued: “But darling, this is a look you could go to the supermarket in.

“It’s like totally real, I just cannot believe it, I loved seeing the character doing it like that, it worked from an entertainment perspective. I loved it all, I think it was brilliant.”
