Tom Jones, 84, makes candid performing admission as ITV The Voice co-star brands him ‘inspiration’

The Voice star Tom Jones has opened up about his illustrious career since 1985 and admitted he often wonders when he’ll get on stage and no longer be able to sing.

Jones and his ITV co-stars will.i.am, LeAnn Rimes, and McFly stars Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher are currently on the hunt for the next biggest singer, competing against one another to get the best.

During the auditions, the five judges often speak about their careers, how long they thought it was going to last and how long they would continue to sing.

On Saturday night, Jones admitted that as the years go on, he wonders how long his singing ability will go on for and said: “It’s a wonderful life, you know, show business.

“When you perform on stage and you get that love coming back from the audience. You think ‘What could be better than this?’ and that’s the way I still feel today. Like I did when I was a kid.”

Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am interjected and praised: “To see you here, still being that inspiration and still being active, is just mind-boggling.”

Jones quipped: “It is to me as well. As the years go on, you think ‘How long is this voice going to last?’. I’m on stage and I open up and there it is and I think ‘Is that voice coming from me?’ and that’s the God’s honest truth, you know. I’m 84 this year,” leaving the audience to erupt in applause.

Viewers of the show also agreed and flocked to the comment sections after the official The Voice account posted the clip on Instagram and Twitter.

One fan said: “He is ageless. His voice is as powerful as it was when I was a little girl watching mom leaving to see him concert. That was a very long time ago.”

“You are the man Tom no one else could even compare your age and your voice amazing. Legend,” someone else said before a third quipped: “Sir Tom you are sensational and your voice is magnificent, it still gives me chills and fever. Bless you.”

A fourth noted: “Oh boy, he certainly does. He’s absolutely sensational in concert, truly amazing. His voice is still phenomenal!”

Another fan praised: “Of course, the voice comes from TOM JONES, 84 years old, he is a strong, talented and wonderful legend that God created, with a brilliant and arduous career. There will be no other like him. May God bless him and may he endure for many more years.”

A sixth penned: “Oh boy, he certainly has! He’s absolutely sensational in concert, truly amazing. His voice is still phenomenal!!”

To relieve his painful hips, Jones went through sessions of inversion therapy which sees the patient strapped to a table and turned upside down to ease pain.

He told the Daily Mail: “I do four songs, sit down, and say, look, normally I would get up after this, but tonight just on the stool just to take the weight off this leg. And I found that I could sing easier sitting than standing.”

He added that he wasn’t taking painkillers or following a special diet while waiting for his right hip replacement, but was “just biding my time until I can get in there to get a new hip.”
