Escape to the Chateau’s Dick and Angel Strawbridge ‘anxious’ about son Arthur as family embark on tour

Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree became household names with their Escape to the Chateau series after they packed away their UK life and moved into a chateau in France, documenting their journey of transforming the historic building into a home and business.

Their two children, Arthur and Dorothy, enjoyed the journey with them and while the series is now over, the family’s exploration lifestyle continues. Adoree, 46, reflected on why she feels slightly “anxious” as she opened up about her son.

The couple are in the midst of promoting their UK tour, Forever Home, which will include 33 shows starting next month.

Arthur and Dorothy will again be joining their parents on the tour, with Adoree admitting she had some “anxiety” about the situation.

She explained: “If you’re going to do a tour, you have to do it properly. The best bit is it’s just like a family outing,” she told Devon Live.

Strawbridge, 65, continued: “Arthur starts senior school and his headmaster said, ‘Yep, great, Arthur can come with us for the whole tour’. The primary schools have always been very supportive, and the headmistress there.”

Adoree responded: “Yeah, they love it. They encourage it to a degree because there’s so much knowledge that the children pick up – history, geography, just socially.

“But we were a bit anxious, especially me,” with Strawbridge adding: “The idea of Arthur not being with us for all of the tour is pretty rough.”

The duo have in the past faced criticism regarding their lifestyle and the impact on their children.

Strawbridge took to his shared Escape to the Chateau Instagram account back in March to post a series of snaps of his family enjoying the sights of New York.

He captioned the post: “New York baby!!!” and showed the four of them smiling at some of the famous landmarks, but one negative comment received a lot of attention.

The comment in question came from one concerned fan who shared their dismay at seeing the two youngsters out of school as they commented: “Why are the children not at school?”

But while Strawbridge hasn’t responded, legions of Escape to the Chateau fans were quick to jump to the former Channel 4 stars’ defence.

“They are on tour with their parents as long as they report back with plenty of pictures of their trip the school don’t mind,” one replied before a second said: “Lots of kids are on Spring Break this week.”

A third fumed: “Blagh !!!! Stop !!! These wonderful children are getting more of an education then half of the children sitting sleeping at their desk.”

The couple, who are adept in their DIY skills and unique creativity, have plenty of fans overseas, and the post came during their US tour.

Speaking at the time to KING 5 News in the US, the husband and wife team were asked how they managed to embark on the huge project without constant “fights”.

“Everybody thinks I say yes all the time,” Strawbridge replied, adding: “That’s not true. But Angel now understands that you eat an elephant a bite at a time.

“And you have to sort of start and do one little bit at a time. That’s the first thing we establish, and she can have anything but not everything.”
