Amanda Holden, 53, left emotional as she shuts down co-star over daughter Lexi, 18, probe: ‘No, no!’

Amanda Holden shared an important life update during her Heart Breakfast show alongside Jason King – also known as JK – and became emotional when discussing her oldest daughter, Lexi Hughes, 18, venturing off to university.

Holden, 53, often shares life updates with her 2.3 million Instagram followers, posting her daughters and their achievements across her page to share how proud she is of them.

During her radio show today, she opened up on the fact her eldest will be flying the nest next week and venturing into the world of independent life at university.

She told JK: “My daughter’s going to uni and we are driving a van, anyway we are doing it next week so shout out to all parents who are saying goodbye to their big ones.”

“How are you feeling about it?” he probed, leaving the star to emotionally admit: “I’m so excited for her because she is just hanging around the house, itching to go.

“She got into the uni she wanted to get into, she is doing what she wants to do and I just said, do you know what, this is life darling, grab it all, live the biggest life you could possibly live.”

Knowing there would be a spare room going since she was moving out, JK joked: “So what’s the bedroom going to be? Because parents instantly think… no no, come on.”

Not wanting to reflect too much on the empty void that would be left after her daughter leaves, Holden turned her head from the microphone briefly before returning to tease: “Oh no, I tell you what it’s going to be, tidy.”

The 50-year-old also penned a sweet tribute to her daughters on Instagram recently after hosting a Palm Royal-inspired party.

The caption read: “Last ish dump of our #palmroyale party. Me and my girls before @lexi.hughes__ leaves for uni.”

Her followers flocked to the comment section to share their good luck messages to Lexi, with one writing: “Oh my goodness, time is flying. All looking très chic and good luck Lexi.”

“Uni?” another simply asked before Holden replied: “I know!” alongside a confused face emoji.

“Best of luck at uni Lexi! Hope you have the best experience,” someone else penned before a fourth quipped: “Nothing like the emotions of seeing your eldest fly the nest. Best of luck Lexi!” (sic)

Her daughter leaving for uni comes not long after she suffered a medical emergency which left the family worried about her health.

Hughes became worryingly ill with a bug and agonising cramps during her A-levels.

As her condition worsened, it was revealed Lexi had contracted the rare VTEC strain of E.coli, which is known to be especially aggressive – with the antibiotics that had been prescribed to her proving ineffective.

Lexi had been just the 113th person in the country to get formally diagnosed with the rare strain of bacteria – but was quickly put on the road to recovery.
